Club Calabrese had its humble beginnings in 1983 through a dedicated and visionary group of people, beginning with Angelo Fera & Silvio Bozzo, who had ties to Calabria and felt the need to not only share their common experiences but to preserve their very unique culture for future generations. Originally “Associazione Calabrese Emigrati (A.C.E.)“, a senior social and recreational club, many dedicated members fund raised and built off the $11,800 Federal Grant awarded to the Club to become the sound, financial standing of Club Calabrese today.
In Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, the highest percentage of Canadian-Italians trace their ancestry to the ‘toe-part’ of Italy, especially the region called Calabria and its five provinces of Cosenza, Crotone, Catanzaro, Vibo Valentia and Reggio Calabria. We’re proud to say that our membership and Club activities have steadily increased since the first inaugural meeting.
